Illegal Encampment Removed within 24 hours of being reported and two arrests made. |

Hello Resident,
Yesterday evening, Police received a report of an illegal encampment in a private car park in the Newtown area. Officers attended this morning and found more than nine unauthorised vehicles on the site. Those present had also caused damage to a fence, and one of the property owners was assaulted when they asked the group to leave.
Under Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, police have the power to direct trespassers to leave land when certain conditions are met. This legislation is particularly relevant in situations involving unauthorised encampments and outlines the authority officers have to act.
Two individuals have been charged with criminal damage, resisting arrest, public order offences and assault and are currently in custody. They are due to appear in court next month.
We remain committed to protecting our local community, and I encourage you to report any concerns you may have.
Many thanks | ||
